Are policemen refusing to serve in Jerusalem? The police tried to recruit another 1200 policemen to serve in the country’s capital due to the high rate of terrorist attacks that have occurred in East Jerusalem, but so far only 200 have responded.
Despite the Internal Security ministry putting together a package of benefits that includes a higher salary, rent subsidy and bonuses, so far, they have had no effect.
Policemen located around the country, both new and veteran, say they will not serve in Jerusalem. And of those already already serving in Jerusalem, dozens have resigned, which has further strained police forces.
The police nevertheless say they hope to reach their objective within a year.
