Man Threatening Synagogue Ax Attack in Manchester Arrested by Police

A 45-year-old man was arrested by Manchester police in connection with a bizarre anti-semitic attack near a local synagogue. The attack took place in the Prestwich neighborhood, where approximately one in five residents are Jews. Manchester is the second largest Jewish community in England outside of London.

Ar first the man issued verbal threats from his car to Jewish residents walking to the synagogue on the first day of Rosh Hashanah. Then he took out an ax to scare them.

His vehicle’s license plate number was written down, which led to his arrest.

Sgt. Steve Wightman-Love, of GMP’s Prestwich Police Team, who is conducting the investigation, said, “I wish to remind everyone that we take all reports of hate crime extremely seriously.”
