Police: No More Parking on Street Near Kotel

Will early morning worshippers at the Western Wall have to give up on praying there? On Tuesday morning worshippers came back to their cars and found notes stuck to them saying that they wouldn’t be able to park on the road outside the Dung Gate. If they did they will be fined for illegal parking.

This is a terrible inconvenience for early morning worshippers as there is no public transportation at that time so worshippers are effectively being asked to come later or face fines for illegal parking. We’re talking about 1,000 worshippers that come to pray at this very auspicious time.

For many years police permitted parking on that road though it was an oral agreement and not something signed upon. According to worshippers when Muslims worshippers come park at that time they can do so freely with no restrictions.

The Israel Police responds to Hidabrut:

“Because of the parking shortage in Jerusalem especially in the Old City we prohibit parking in place where it is illegal to park by law. Today cars parked there received notice that they are parked illegally. If they will park there afterwards, the police will be forced to issue them a fine. This step was taken in coordination with the Rabbi of the Kotel.”

We hope a solution can be found for the many worshippers praying at that time at the Kotel.
