Our lives are to fulfill our divine mission. When we ask for what we need, it's because we need it to fulfill our mission that G-d gave us. Such prayer is not self negation but helps bring to self actualization. When we pray for heaven's sake, to get assistance in fulfilling our mission in this world, G-d opens the doors to grant you what you need to full your mission.
