Press Corps May be Evicted From White House

Things will be different in Trump’s White House. There are reports that the White House press corps may be denied access to the White House. President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team is considering such plans.

Citing three sources with the transition team, Esquire reports that the Trump administration is “seriously considering” evicting the press corps from the White House. The argument is that the press would actually have more access to Trump.

“There has been no decision…there has been some discussion about how to do it,” Sean Spicer the incoming White House press secretary told Esquire

According to Esquire, if the media corps is removed from the cozy confines of the White House press room, where it has worked for several decades, they will be relocated to the White House Conference Center—near Lafayette Square—or to the Old Executive Office Building, next door to the White House.

Spicer told Esquire, that one of the reasons the administration is looking to evict the press from the White House is because the press needs more room to cover Trump and the White House. Presently, there are only 49 seats in the White House James Brady Press Briefing Room. This does not meet the demand of hundreds, and sometimes, thousands of requests from journalists to cover Trump, Spicer said.

However, Esquire heard from a different source that the real reason might be that the administration is considering the eviction because of the way the media covered Trump during the campaign and after his election victory.

Trump, usually going straight to Twitter, has repeatedly put the media back in place showing his displeasure with the way they covered him.  He would often name a news agency or a reporter he wasn’t happy with. Trump recently scolded CNN’s Jim Acosta during his press conference last week.

Plans aren’t final yet but Trump’s white House will look different than it ever was, probably for the better.
