Rabbi Warren Goldstein Launches Third Annual ‘Shabbat Project’

The third annual global Shabbat Project is scheduled for Nov. 11-12.  According to founder, South African Chief Rabbi Goldstein, the aim is to bridge Jews from all “walks of life – religious, secular and traditional, young and old, from all corners of the world – and transcend the barriers that seem to separate us, experiencing one full Shabbat together, in full accordance with Jewish law.”

One million people are expected to participate in the Shabbat Project, scheduled in 1,000 cities worldwide.

This year’s theme, “Shabbat can do that,” is reinforced by Rabbi Goldstein insistence that, “through the transformative power of Shabbat, we’ve seen individuals and communities accomplish great things; things that before were not possible.  It is our opportunity to rejuvenate family and community life, restore Jewish pride and identity, and strengthen Jewish unity across the globe.”

Community “challa bakes,” are simultaneously being organized as a communal event helping to provide the large quantities of food needed for the Shabbat Project.
