Israeli ground, air and naval forces and 3 different US Marine Corps units and battalions recently completed a series of routine live-fire bilateral training exercises.
During the drills, the troops concentrated on urban and tunnel warfare tasks, helicopter landings behind enemy lines and simulated rescues under fire. The drills also included a scenario in which Israel is subjected to Hezbollah and Iranian missile salvos, and responded with joint Israeli and American missile defense systems.
These systems included Israel’s David’s Sling medium- to long-range missile defense system, American radar systems deployed across the Middle East, and a satellite system capable of alerting of missile launches across the globe.
The US troops are seeking IDF counterterrorism expertise in their war on Islamic State in the Middle East.
